Has anyone ever wondered what Batman villains get up to at night? While Batman continuously chases after The Joker and The Penguin? In Warner Bros. new game Batman: Arkham Underworld which is currently only available on iOS, you begin your quest to become the next Criminal Mastermind and rule the underworld of Gotham City.
When you first begin the game, you are greeted by Catwoman who acts as your guide to the whole Arkham Underworld; she gives excellent hints and provides you with the best strategy for each mission. Also, she contributes a lot to the story which is what this game has, an excellent balance between the gameplay and the story.
The graphics and artwork in the game enhance the ambience of Arkham Underworld, effectively setting the tone and mood of the game itself. The mechanics of the game are quite simple, and the interactivity of the different stages makes the game much more appealing.
As the player progresses through the game, they continuously unlock different villains who help you in different missions. In the beginning, the player has to break out The Riddler in order to unlock him.
There are 3 different stages of the game and each of them vary with the mission and location. The first stage is where you choose the different missions and upgrade your headquarters. The second stage is the scouting mode, where the player scouts a location and is guided by Catwoman as to how best to approach the mission. Finally, the third stage is where the player deploys their henchmen and super villain in order to complete the objective.
Throughout the different stages, the story is finely intertwined, which is a fresh change of pace and makes it even more enjoyable.
In terms of the game mechanics, the responsiveness is great and is not at all buggy. This makes the experience even more enjoyable as the loading times are very quick, which allows the player to get stuck into the game immediately. The controls are easy to remember, due to the touch nature of the game. The majority of them are touch to move and swipe for the scouting mode which is easy to control.
Overall, the game is incredibly fun and is an amazing mobile title for Batman fans to get their hands on. Only if you have an iOS device, for the time-being. Despite this, Batman: Arkham Underworld is enjoying a positive reception and reviews. We are sure that this success will see it available on Android devices in the near future.
